Did you know that the Netherlands is one of Finland’s top 10 trade partners? Between January and August 2024 Finland’s exports to the Netherlands were approximately €4.3 billion, while imports from the Netherlands were around €3.0 billion, resulting in a total trade value of €7.3 billion. Key sectors include machinery, chemical industry products, forest industry products, and metals. This trade relationships highlights the strong economic ties between Finland and the Netherlands.

Finland excels in high-tech and sustainable technologies, while the Netherlands is a hub for start-ups & digital innovations, making them natural partners in tech collaborations. This complementary expertise could lead to groundbreaking advancements in areas like sustainable energy solutions, smart mobility, and digitalised industries, driving economic growth and improving quality of life across Europe.

 

Did you know that both Finland and the Netherlands are recognised for having some of the most dynamic startup ecosystems in Europe? Helsinki and Amsterdam are ranked among Europe’s top 10 startup cities, particularly in tech and innovation, attracting millions in venture capital investments.  

In 2023, Helsinki’s startup ecosystem demonstrated resilience amid global economic challenges. By May 2023, Helsinki-based startups had secured €204 million in venture capital funding & 30% of this investment was directed towards deep tech startups. 

In 2023, over €2.1 billion was invested in startups in Amsterdam, with nearly €1.9 billion channeled into Dutch ventures alone. The number of deals increased by 6% from the previous year.

Did you know that Finland and the Netherlands are recognised for their strong commitment to gender equality, consistently ranking among the top countries in Europe? Both are also top-ranking countries in Europe for female representation in business leadership.

In the Global Gender Gap Report 2024 by the World Economic Forum, Finland ranks 2nd globally, having closed 87.5% of its gender gap. This high ranking reflects significant progress in areas such as political empowerment and economic participation. 

The Netherlands ranks 3rd in the EU on the Gender Equality Index 2024, with 78.8 points out of 100. This is 7.8 points above the EU score.

In terms of women in executive roles, a Eurostat report indicates that as of 2020, women accounted for 34% of board members in both the Netherlands and Finland, placing them among the higher-ranking countries in Europe for female representation in business leadership.
