Being a leader in sustainability has long been a strategic target for KONE. The company has a key role in making urbanization more sustainable and continues to take strong actions together with its customers, partners and suppliers, to develop sustainable business practices for the long term. Last year, the company set science-based targets for significant reductions in its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by the year 2030 and has also pledged to have carbon neutral operations in the same timeframe.

Since 2011, Neste has a refinery on the Maasvlakte where it produces renewable fuels. Leenders, Vice President Production Renewable Products at Neste, was involved in a number of important investments in Rotterdam. At the end of last year, Neste took over ‘neighbour’ Bunge for €258 million. The Finnish company is also investing €190 million in the refinery to produce sustainable aviation fuel. Furthermore, Neste is planning to build a second refinery in Rotterdam. This will involve an investment of €1.5 billion.

WIDER INTERESTS

For the Port Man/Woman of the Year Foundation, Leenders’ commitment to the wider interests of the port of Rotterdam was also a consideration. On the board of Deltalinqs, he represents the renewables sector and he is also chairman of the Dutch Association for Sustainable Biofuels (NVDB).
Normally, the award is presented on the second Monday of the new year. Because of the corona crisis, this has been postponed to the second Monday in April: 11 April.

“Fighting the climate crisis is one of today’s most critical challenges, facing all industries and societies. Although Sanoma operates in a low carbon industry, our responsibility is to minimise environmental impacts across our value chain. I am extremely proud of Sanoma’s sustainability improvements in recent years and it is great to see how these measures are reflected in the CDP’s ratings. Only last year, we received the seventh-highest score in Climate Change and the fifth-highest in Forest and now we have managed to improve both of the ratings significantly”, says Kaisa Uurasmaa, Head of Investor Relations and Sustainability at Sanoma.

The CDP scores are based on Sanoma’s performance data in 2020 and since then Sanoma has further accelerated its focus on climate and sustainability. Among others, Sanoma updated its Sustainability Strategy in March 2021 and committed to setting emission reduction targets aligned with the Science Based Target initiative’s (STBi) criteria in June 2021. Sanoma has also joined UN Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative as a signatory and has incorporated the UN Sustainable Development Goals into its new Sustainability Strategy.

The CDP (former Carbon Disclosure Project) is a global non-profit organisation that annually assesses companies’ environmental work. The scores are based on the scope of reporting, the identification and management of environmental risks and compliance with the best practices in environmental management.

In November and December, two US Army helicopter brigades are shipped between the U.S. and Germany via the Verbrugge Zeeland Terminal in Vlissingen. The brigades are part of a reinforced American presence in Europe. The Zeeland Terminal functions as a so-called Sea Port of Debarkation and as a Sea Port of Embarkation.

Verbrugge supports this operation with a complete package of services, consisting of loading and unloading equipment, storage, lashing & securing, port agency and various facility services.

Human interaction is at the heart of Howspace, an AI-powered digital facilitation platform for collaboration and social learning. To promote the human-centric approach to transformation, Howspace invited selected partners to co-create a certification program that trains and equips people with skills and practices needed to drive impactful change in organizations digitally in a human-centric way.

The Transformation Agent certification program was created from this process. The partners who took part in the co-creation of the program were trained and certified to organize the TA programs.

“The co-creative process worked nicely, and it was an excellent learning experience for everybody. We believe in engagement, so the co-creative approach was a natural choice for us,” said Ulla Luukas, Partnerships Director at Howspace.

The TA certification program will be run by Howspace Certified Partners around the world. The TA program is for people looking to find skills and practices for driving different kinds of change and transformation processes in their organizations in a human-centric way. The enrollment for the first certification programs has started and the programs begin at the beginning of 2022.

The new office is located at Narvavägen 7 in the area Östermalm. This places them in the proximity of the Port of Stockholm, a shipyard and the city centre. There are multiple companies representing the maritime industry in the building and we are excited to cement our presence within the maritime cluster in Stockholm.

White-clad Saint Lucia, borrowed from Catholic and Orthodox churches, wears a striking crown of tall white candles and sings ancient songs to urge people out of their winter doldrums. The main event takes place on December 13.

It’s the closest thing Finland has to celebrating royalty. This special woman, symbolic of the fourth-century Italian martyr Lucia, is put on a pedestal. She is literally crowned – and then given the duty of offering an abundance of joy, music and golden light to everyone who needs it.

Thousands of girls across the country also don homemade versions of Lucia’s trademark white dress and crown of candles (kids use safe, battery-powered “candles” nowadays). Then they sing for family or schoolmates in an annual tradition that has continued to grow over the years.
